Dubrovnik Destination Wedding
Croatia · Mediterranean
Dubrovnik is the Adriatic's crown jewel, a UNESCO-listed walled city perched above crystal-clear waters with terracotta roofs, limestone streets, and centuries of history in every stone. Made globally famous as a filming location, the city delivers a cinematic wedding backdrop that feels like stepping into another era. Beyond the old town, the surrounding coastline offers island-hopping, secluded beaches, and dramatic cliffside venues. Summer (July-August) is very crowded; shoulder season is ideal.

Legal requirements
Most couples do a symbolic ceremony here
Foreigners can legally marry in Croatia with no residency requirement. You file a notice of intent with the local registrar (maticar), who then schedules the ceremony with you, typically 30 to 45 days out. Croatia's ministry requires a copy of your birth record issued within the last 3 months, a single-status certificate, and confirmation there is no impediment to the marriage and that it will be recognized in your home country, each with a certified Croatian translation (US documents also need an apostille). The ceremony takes two adult witnesses, and a court interpreter must be present if neither partner speaks Croatian. Civil ceremonies can be held at the registry office or at outside locations for an extra fee based on distance, timing, and whether it falls on a Sunday or holiday. Given the paperwork and interpreter requirements, many couples opt for a symbolic ceremony and handle the legal marriage at home.
