Getting Legally Married in Los Cabos: Requirements for US Couples

Legal ceremony available

What the law requires

Los Cabos is in Baja California Sur, which follows Mexican marriage law. A civil ceremony by a licensed judge is required. You need valid passports, apostilled birth certificates translated to Spanish, tourist cards, and a blood test done in Mexico within 14 days of the ceremony. Four witnesses with valid ID are required. One year must have lapsed since any prior divorce. Most resorts coordinate the legal process.

Do your guests need a visa?

No visa for US passport holders on a typical wedding-length stay in Mexico. Guests just need a passport valid for the travel dates (six months beyond, to be safe).

Marriage laws and document requirements change. Confirm with your planner or the country's consulate before you book.
