Getting Legally Married in Cozumel: Requirements for US Couples

Legal ceremony available

What the law requires

Same federal requirements as the rest of Mexico: civil ceremony performed by a Cozumel judge, apostilled and Spanish-translated birth certificates, valid passports, blood test done on the island within 14 days of the ceremony, and four witnesses with valid ID. Quintana Roo state paperwork is handled locally; the island's small size means the same handful of planners manage most legal coordination. Symbolic beach ceremonies with a prior civil registration are very common.

Do your guests need a visa?

No visa for US passport holders on a typical wedding-length stay in Mexico. Guests just need a passport valid for the travel dates (six months beyond, to be safe).

Marriage laws and document requirements change. Confirm with your planner or the country's consulate before you book.
