St. Kitts Destination Wedding

St. Kitts & Nevis · Caribbean

St. Kitts is what the Caribbean looked like before the crowds: green volcanic peaks, uncrowded golden beaches, and a marriage law that asks for just two working days on-island and about $80 for the license. The Southeast Peninsula narrows to a ridge between two seas, with the Park Hyatt's Banana Bay on one side and beach-shack-chic Cockleshell on the other, all facing Nevis across a two-mile channel. Daily nonstops from Miami land in about three hours, and a 25-minute boat crossing adds Nevis and the Four Seasons to a wedding weekend.

Legal requirements

Legal ceremony is straightforward

St. Kitts asks for just two working days on-island before the wedding date for a Special Marriage Licence (EC$200, about US$80); couples on-island 15+ days qualify for the cheaper Ordinary licence. Bring valid passports, a notarized single-status affidavit (or decree absolute / death certificate if previously married, in English or officially translated), and complete the application before a local Justice of the Peace for filing with the Legal Department in Basseterre. Church weddings also need letters from your home clergy. US states recognize the marriage with no separate registration. All arrivals complete the St. Kitts & Nevis eTA (US$17) online before travel.

Always verify current requirements with local authorities or your wedding planner before finalizing plans.
